The actress has regularly spoken up about it, and encourages others to do the same as well.

Julianne Hough first openly spoke about her diagnosis of endometriosis in 2008. Since then, she has worked hard to normalize the condition.

As reported by Pop Culture, Hough has even partnered with the #SpeakENDO movement to campaign for education and understanding of the issue.

Endometriosis is an incredibly common problem where the tissue that normally only makes up a woman's uterine lining is also found in other organs of the body. This can cause immense pain, and even fertility issues.

It is estimated that approximately one in ten women suffer from the condition, and many may not even know it.

Many people still feel that speaking about a woman's reproductive system is for some reason a taboo topic that needs to be dealt with by women in private.

But Hough feels that it shouldn't be this way, and that people should be able to talk about these kinds of issues openly.

"I think it’s also something uncomfortable to talk about in the past. There should be nothing uncomfortable or weird about it," she said. "The more women feel empowered, the more men feel empowered to talk about it too."

She and husband Brooks Laich also have other causes close to their hearts. They have partnered with Love United, a charitable organization that aims to bring clean water to many communities in Africa.

Love United is partnered with sports drink company Propel Electrolyte Water, who will be donating a portion of proceeds from their Fitness Festivals over the summer to the cause.

“Love United is about uniting the world,” said Laich. “Propel is about uniting the fitness community through proper hydration and our first mission through Love United is about bringing clean drinking water to an underserved nation."
