The two friends, business partners, and African-American icons recently appeared in a social media picture together, displaying a defiant attitude in solidarity with the anti-racism movement.

32-year-old football player and anti-racism activist Colin Kaepernick and the influential rapper and record producer, 55-year-old Dr. Dre recently joined forces in social media to send a simple but strong message.

The Hip-Hop legend and the committed activist had a meeting and they marked it by taking a picture together in a green field, both kneeling as Kaepernick has famously done in protest of police brutality and racial violence since 2016.

“Defiant,” Dr. Dre simply captioned the joint portrait which he shared on his Instagram feed on July 27, 2020, and it was very well-received by the social network’s users, earning more than 400,000 likes in a matter of two days.

Big names from both sports and the music world, like LeBron James, Caron Butler, Busta Rhymes, and Kevin Durant, took to the comments section of the post to leave supportive messages for the two friends and business partners.

WORKING TOGETHER

Kaepernick and Dr. Dre’s professional relationship goes back to 2013 when the former signed an endorsement deal with the latter’s brand, Beats by Dre, but the two also share an interest in the fight for racial equality.

The NFL free agent’s sports career basically ended following the backlash Kaepernick faced because of his political beliefs and no team has signed him in the last four years.

COLIN’S COMEBACK

But the controversy has turned Kaepernick into a household name beyond fans of American football, and he has become a cultural and media phenomenon, something that he has known how to capitalize on.

Just recently, Netflix revealed to be working in a new scripted limited series titled “Colin in Black & White,” created by Kaepernick in collaboration with filmmaker Ava DuVernay.

The series will revisit the athlete’s teenage years and it will consist of six episodes which scripts were just finished in May 2020. The show aims at giving a glimpse at the experiences that shaped Kaepernick, turning him into the civil rights fighter he is today.

BACK IN THE STUDIO

Dr. Dre has also stayed busy during the COVID-19 lockdown, and he has recently reunited with his old friend and artistic collaborator, fellow rapper Xzibit, with the two returning to the recording studio once again to work on Xzibit’s upcoming project.

Xzibit’s collective Serial Killers, which includes rappers B-Real and Demrick, made its debut with 2018’s album “Day Of The Dead,” and for their second recording effort, they have chosen Dr. Dre as a producer.
