James Holzhauer sets record for the game show “Jeopardy” as his final episode has the highest rating with a total of 14.5 million followers. He donated part of $2.5 million wins to a cancer-walk in honor of the show’s host, Alex Trebek.
For ‘Jeopardy James’ ending a record means the start of another record. On June 3, when James Holzhauer ended his record-breaking run on television game show, his final appearance set another record for the show as it became the highest-rated episode in 14 years.
Not only that, it bumped the show to the third most-watched regularly scheduled TV show of the 2018-2019 season with a total of 14. 6 million viewers. It comes behind a December episode of “60 Minutes” and the Season Finale of “The Big Bang Theory.”
James became famous for his 32 winning-streak as a champion on “Jeopardy!” from April to June. Unfortunately, that came to an end when he lost to Emma Boettcher.
Nevertheless, it wasn’t a painful loss as he left the show with $2,464,216. This makes him the third highest overall winning “Jeopardy!” contestant and the fourth-highest-earning American game show contestant of all times.
James isn’t keeping all that millions to himself as he donated part of his winnings to a Chicago-area pancreatic cancer walk in honor of Alex Trebek, the host of “Jeopardy!”
Earlier in March, Trebek announced that he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, but three months later he revealed that he was in near remission.
A fan of the show, Ann Zediker invited James to join a cancer walk in his hometown, Naperville. Zediker watched James’ final episode on the show and was touched when Trebek thanked the gameshow whiz’s daughter for writing him a get-well-soon card.
While speaking to CNN, Zediker revealed that her dad died of pancreatic cancer in 2010, and she felt she should reach out to James. She said:
“At the end of the day, I had nothing to lose. My heart told me it was the right thing to do.”
Although James couldn’t be a part of the walk, he honored the invitation by donating $1109.14 —which was a representation of his daughter’s birthday— to the cause. He wrote:
“For Alex Trebek and all the other survivors.”
What a fantastic way to spread love and positivity!
