Transgender Man Who Was Told He Can't Get Pregnant Celebrates His Son Reaching the 6-Month Mark

The transgender man who gave birth six months ago is happy he went through the process but won’t be doing it a second time.

28-year-old Wyley Simpson from Texas was flabbergasted when he found out he was pregnant in February 2018. He had been on male hormone injections for six years and already had his breasts removed, with no sign of a menstrual cycle.

Wyley met the love of his life Stephen Gaeth on Grindr, and it was love at first sight for them both. Given the circumstances, the last thing the couple thought when Wyley’s nausea turned into full-blown morning sickness, is that he is pregnant. But four positive pregnancy tests later it was confirmed, Stephen and Wyley were expecting a baby.

"For me, personally, especially being on testosterone for six years, I would have to stop treatment if I wanted to continue the pregnancy. So that was my main scare, especially after being on it for so long. How it would affect me mentally, that was my main concern."

But the couple went ahead with the pregnancy, and in September 2018, Wiley gave birth to their 7lb 5oz son, Rowan, via C-section.

For Wiley, now holding his son in his arms and already six months old, it made everything he endured during the pregnancy worthwhile, but it won’t be happening again, and she

of the abuse he had suffered while pregnant:

'It's not every day that someone sees a pregnant man walking down the road, so we received a fair amount of abuse. I would be told that I'll never be a man, ‘men don't carry babies’ and everyone called me ‘it.’ I don't see myself as any less of a man because of what happened, but I just do not identify in such a feminine way as to be pregnant – so it won't be happening again.”

Wyley began transitioning from female to male when he was 21 and plan on making the full transition when the time is right. However, Wiley is not the only man that’s gone through these largely uncharted waters. In 2017, 22-year-old Hayden Cross became the first British man to give birth.

Born Paige, he put his transition on hold because he wanted to fulfill his dream of becoming a parent first.

After he found a sperm donor on Facebook, his dream became a reality, but he too suffered through the “incredibly difficult” process.

With his daughter Trinity Leigh now 18 months old he appeared on “Lorraine,” the UK talk show, “It was really strange, and there were a lot of emotions and a lot of feelings. I wouldn’t advise anyone to do it if I’m honest because it was really hard,” Hayden said.

Another couple from Oregon also decided to have a child before completing the transition from female to male. But their experience was very different.
