Remember Actress Vanessa Bell Calloway? Her Daughter Alexandra Is All Grown-up & Looks Like Her Famous Mom

About three decades after starring in “Coming to America,” Vanessa Bell Calloway is still as spectacular as ever, and her daughter is taking after her.

If you’ve seen "Coming to America," then you’ll remember the overzealous bride that the King and Queen chose for their son.

Princess Imani, played by Calloway, was one of the stand-out characters from that 80s classic and continues to be remembered, especially for her hilarious line: "Whatever it is that you like."

Calloway, of course, did not stop at that role. She’s been thrilling audiences as Lady Ella Johnson in Bounce TV's "Saints & Sinners."

From 2011 to 2016, fans got to see her as Carol Fisher on the hit Showtime series, "Shameless." Surely, the beloved actress has come a long way. She was also seen in her role as Imani Izzi in Paramount Pictures’ sequel "Coming 2 America."

She turned 64 in March 2021, and it appears she hasn't aged a bit since the time she had us rolling with laughter as she starred alongside Eddie Murphy.

Vanessa Bell Calloway and Anthony Calloway, her husband of 33 years, have two beautiful daughters: Alexandra, popularly known as Ally, and Ashley.

CALLOWAY, THE BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR

In 2009, she was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma, an early stage of breast cancer. On delivering the news of her cancer diagnosis to her daughters, she said of them at the time:

"While Ashley cried and comforted me, Ally reacted differently. She didn’t weep, hug, touch, or look at me. I later found out she was terrified."

After undergoing two lumpectomies and, finally, a mastectomy, she was diagnosed cancer-free. With the help of her supportive family and competent doctors, she beat cancer and bounced back to health.

"It’s nice to walk around without skepticism. I wake up worry-free every day. I forget I even had cancer sometimes because I’m so entrenched in the goodness of life. It’s a gift," the “Hawthorne” star said.

Calloway is now more aware of the importance of regular checkups and screenings as a breast cancer survivor. She now promotes this with a passion as a spokesperson for Susan G. Komen’s Know Your Girls Campaign.

VANESSA CALLOWAY AT 60

At Vanessa's 60th birthday celebration in 2017, she showed off some slick moves in a dance video alongside Ally and Ashley. Calloway proved that she's still got it by flawlessly executing a full split.

What's more, her daughters, also trained dancers, proved to be her exact minis. Ally and Ashley Calloway both graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta in 2016 and 2012, respectively.

At 64, Vanessa Bell Calloway is continually proving life is sexy and fun from the sixth floor. Also, she shares a very tight-knit relationship with her girls.

ALEXANDRA CALLOWAY AND RACISM

Alexandra, especially, has now grown into a gorgeous young woman and looks very much like her mother. She is also driven and served on the executive board of her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha.

In June 2020, Alexandra took to her Instagram to share a story about her days in middle school. At the time, her school was predominantly white.

She recalled how the white boys at the school picked on her and her friends on multiple occasions. In the video, she shared in detail her experiences.

Also, for a teenager, Alexandra was disappointed the boy in question was not given adequate punishment. With her video, she encouraged others to share their stories.
