Traci Ellis-Ross reveals that she is living her best life at 45-years-old, all while living single and without children.
Relaxing on a sofa in the rooftop garden of the Soho House in West Hollywood after shooting her cover for In-Style, Tracee Ellis-Ross shares how sunset is her most favorite part of the day, as she often uses it to do some "me" time by pouring herself a glass of wine, take a dip in the bathtub, and do some "wandering and pondering".
Despite this relaxing hour every day, Tracee actually begins her days early, rising at 4 am every morning to shoot the fifth season of "Black-ish". Aside from this, new projects have been piling up left and right for the actress, making her career one of the most unique in Hollywood, as she rose to fame after 40-years-old.
“In the last few years, things I thought were off the table happened.”
In 2017, Tracee got her first ever invite to the Golden Globe Awards, where she won a Best Actress award for her portrayal of Dr. Rainbow "Bow" Johnson, an anesthesiologist, mother of five, and moral core character of the series "Black-ish".
Ross was 44-years-old when she bagged the coveted award, a good 44 years after her own mom, Diana Ross, won her award for "Lady Sings the Blues".
According to Ross, "Black-ish" has been pivotal in her career, as it has opened many portals to different opportunities that she didn't use to get. She says that the show aims to discuss real issues, while adding a bit of humor into it, in order to make it more accessible and more relatable to the masses.
“I think it’s stuff that all of us are chomping on or wondering how other people are dealing with. I would say that 70 percent of the people who come up to me on the street are 11-year-old white boys who are obsessed with our show. Where in their 11 years would the unpacking of the historical context of the N-word come up? I think that’s great.”
With the rate her career is going, Tracee is extremely happy to be where she is now. The fact that she plays a mother-of-five in her show and is not married nor has children in real life does not bother her at all, and she ensures everyone that she is not moping at home because of her singleness.
“It’s sort of fascinating to be 45 and single and childless. Happily single, I should add. Not at home crying about it.”
